However the candidate is required to present recommendation letters and a motivation letter where he should justify the reasons for applying to one of these programs and also justify his research topics selection. The scholarship will only be granted if the candidate is accepted by CMU and by one of the Portuguese Universities within one of the PhD programs.

The scholarships will be granted under the rules established by the Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação (Law 40/2004, of August 18) and according to the FCT Regulamento da Formação Avançada e Qualificação de Recursos Humanos.

These scholarships are available to persons holding a master degree or equivalent in the areas targeted by the CMU-Portugal program.

Candidates to PhD scholarships, who have held a scholarship of the same type under FCT programs, will be limited a maximum number of years of support by the total number of support years under all such grants.

Evaluation

Evaluation is essentially based on the merit and motivation of the applicant. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate good English fluency.
