In the framework of the UTAustin-Portugal Program, FCT opens a call for PhD and Post Doctoral scholarships in the areas included in the program and described in www.utaustinportugal.org:
The research topics available, as well as the supervisors, both at UTAustin and at the Portuguese Universities, will be defined by the UTAustin-Portugal Program. The candidate must select the available research topics in the online application form and is required to present a motivation letter where he/she should also justify his/her research topics selection. The scholarships corresponding to this announcement are granted under the conditions stated in the law “Lei nº 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto” and the regulations (in Portuguese) are available in the “Regulamento da Formação Avançada e Qualificação de Recursos Humanos da FCT”.
The applicants must hold a BSc or MSc degree and be interested to work in the areas included in the UTAustin-Portugal Program.
These scholarships will be granted to applicants holding a PhD that intend to develop research work in Portuguese scientific institutions in the areas included in the UTAustin-Portugal Program. Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree less than five years ago.
The scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
The call will be opened from July 23rd 2007 until 9:00 am on September 24th 2007. The start date for funding will depend of the university, but it is estimated to be around the beginning of 2008.
Portuguese citizens and the holders of residence permit in Portugal as well as foreigner citizens or stateless persons non-resident in Portugal, are eligible. The application should be supported by a host national institution, signatory of the International Cooperation Protocol in Science, Technology and Higher Education, signed by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, in the framework of the UTAustin-Portugal Program.
For the PhD scholarships candidates who have had previous scholarships sponsored by the FCT, that period it is taken into consideration for the calculation of the maximum duration of the scholarship.
The criteria for acceptance of a candidate is, essentially, based on the merit and motivation of the candidate. The evaluation panel will review the correspondent applications, considering the review elements and producing an arranged list of candidates.
The applications should be submitted on-line, including Academic Certificates and Letters of Recommendation, starting on July 23rd 2007 on the site http://concursos.fct.pt/bolsas.
No other means of application will be accepted.
