EJP SOIL

The European Joint Programme (EJP) SOIL - towards climate-smart sustainable management of agricultural soils

EJP SOIL is a project funded by the Framework Programme Horizon 2020 (2020-2025) and participated by National State Labs aiming at improving understanding of agricultural soil management by targeting: climate change mitigation and adaptation; Food security and ecosystem services, and; Soil education in Europe and capacity building. Climate smart sustainable soil management is the adequate response to these key societal challenges. FCT is participating in the 1st external call of the EJP SOIL with a group of funding agencies.

29th April 2021: call launch

25th June 2021, 13:00 CEST: pre-registration deadline (mandatory)

7th September 2021, 16:00 CET: submission of full proposal deadline

November-December 2021: communication of full proposals results

EJP Soil 1st External Call 2021 "Towards Healthy, Resilient and Sustainable Agricultural Soils"

Call topics

  • Understanding SOC sequestration (stabilization, storage and persistence)
  • Soil biodiversity: status, and role in ecosystem services provided by soils
  • Site-specific or landscape-scale approaches to improve sustainability, resilience, health, and productivity of soils.

Countries and funding organisations participating in the call: Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia and United Kingdom. In addition the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases will also participate in this call as funders and the following countries can apply to GRA funding: Argentina, Bangladesh, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Malaysia, Malawi, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Samoa, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Uruguay, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

FCT’s funding commitment to the 1st External Call is 200.000,00 €. Maximum requested budget per project: 200.000,00 € (if PT coordinates a project. If more than one institution from PT are requesting budget in one proposal the budget should be shared) and 100.000,00 € (if just participating. If more than one institution is participating from PT and requesting budget to FCT, the budget should be shared). Each national applicant to the call must send to the bellow mentioned e-mail the respective Statement of Commitment, until the 21st September 2021.
