LEAP-AGRI - A long term EU-Africa research and innovation partnership on food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture

LEAP-Agri is a project funded by the Framework Programme Horizon 2020 (2016-2021) and a national contribution to the implementation to the "Roadmap towards a jointly funded EU-Africa Research & Innovation Partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture" (HLPD Roadmap) contributing for the Joint Africa Europe Strategy. LEAP-Agri is a partnership of 33 organisations, from ten european countries and associated countries and twelve african countries coordinated by Agence Nationale de la Recherce (ANR), France. The LEAP-Agri main objectives are:

The preparation and implementation of a joint call for proposals for collaborative R&I projects between European and African partners which will contribute to the coordination and increase of joint activities between R&I institutions, and their programmes across European Union Member States, Associated countries and African countries;
The undertaking of other activities, in particular: the identification and test of innovative instruments for alignment and collaboration in research, innovation, capacity strengthening and infrastructure development; the communication and dissemination of results emerging from LEAP-Agri activities; the definition of a joint Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda in the Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture domain; and the consultation and liaison with relevant stakeholder communities, including research, the private sector, civil-society organisations and governments in Europe and Africa.

Call thematic areas

Area 1. Sustainable agricultural production intensification, in relation with social, economic and environmental aspects, including aquaculture;
Area 2. Population nutrition and health in relation with agriculture and food systems;
Area 3. Access to food, expansion and improvement of agricultural markets and trade, including local and territorial dynamics.
