M-ERA.NET 3 started on the 1st of March 2021 and will last until the 28th of February 2026 under the Horizon 2020 ERA-NET COFUND scheme with currently 50 public funding organisations from 36 countries. The diverse and experienced network comprises national and regional funding programmes from 25 EU member states and 5 associated countries and includes 6 non-European organisations. M-ERA.NET 3, the pan-European and international network for research and innovation on materials and battery technologies, supporting the European Green Deal, launched its Call 2021 on 15 March 2021. 45 national and regional funding organisations from 32 countries are participating in that call with an indicative total budget of more than 57 Million €, including EC top-up-funding. The transnational projects funded by M-ERA.NET are expected to contribute to clean energy-related applications and battery technologies by improving the efficiency of production processes, reducing the usage of materials and energy resources and by improving materials properties such as durability. New approaches to health applications with the focus on advanced materials and coatings will also be addressed.
M-ERA.NET is a strong network of public funding organisations supporting and increasing coordination and convergence of national and regional funding programmes on research and innovation related to materials and battery technologies to support the European Green Deal. Between 2021 and 2026 the M-ERA.NET consortium will contribute to the restructuring of the European Research Area (ERA) by operating as a single innovative and flexible network of funding organisations.
M-ERA.NET will complement existing instruments and contribute to EU policies whilst supporting the exploitation of knowledge along the whole innovation chain from basic research to applied research and innovation. M-ERA.NET will implement a series of joint calls to fund excellent innovative transnational RTD cooperation, including one call for proposals with EU co-funding. These calls will provide the European RTD community the opportunity to access coordinated funding across Europe and gain access to leading knowledge world-wide.
M-ERA.NET3 proceeds the activities of M-ERA.NET2, started in March 2016, as a network of 41 public funding organisations, of which 29 are national and 12 regional and 4 international, from 28 different countries. The consortium aims to address societal challenges and technological needs with an interdisciplinary approach, creating a flexible umbrella structure to allow coverage of topics in materials science and engineering including materials for low carbon energy technologies. Over five years, the M-ERA.NET2 consortium has mobilised substantial national and regional budgets, to support the European RTD community. Cooperation with partners outside Europe is targeted to build a global network of public funding programmes.
