JPI Climate & JPI Oceans launched, on Feb. 18th 2019, a Joint Transnational Call on the theme “Next Generation Climate Science in Europe for Oceans” bringing together 9 countries with a total budget of 8.6 million EUR to fund innovative projects focusing on oceans and climate, using observations and Earth system models in order to address the following topics:
This joint call between JPI Climate and JPI Oceans mobilizes funding organizations for transnational added values on climate sciences with a special focus on oceans and climate interactions. Only a strong collaboration and cohesion between the countries will lead to European leadership in the next IPCC assessments and science contribution required by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will then trigger a new wave of Climate Services innovation for next decade. Therefore, this joint call aims at funding two major projects for each theme encompassing as much as possible all countries participating in the call. Focusing on oceans will shed new light on the stressors impacting on marine life and consequently on marine bio-economy. The joint call will also help inform adaptation policy by bringing key knowledge to increase resilience and adaptation measures for vulnerable areas, especially in coastal and low island areas.
The Joint Call will be supported by funding up to 8.6 Mio EUR from the following Research Funding Organisations (RFOs):
Funding of participating researchers will be provided by their respective national funding organisations, in accordance with their eligibility conditions. In addition, researchers based in other countries are able to participate with their own resources.
Each application must address only one of the three themes of the call. Please note that not all funding organisations will fund applications in all topic areas.
Consortia should be comprised of a minimum of three partners from three different participating countries. The application process is a one-stage submission process.
The deadline for submitting proposals is on 14 June 2019 at 13:00 CEST. All applications must be submitted via the submission platform.

Furthermore it is necessary to make proof that the Researcher in Charge has or will have, at the time of signing the project’s acceptance document, a labour bound, a post-doctoral grant with the Proposing Institution or, in case there is no such situation, send a written agreement between the parties. The JPI HDHL together with JPI OCEANS and FACCE-JPI partners are pleased to announce the launch of the ERA –HDHL 3rd Joint Funding Action ”Knowledge Hub on Food and Nutrition Security". This new joint initiative aims to establish a Knowledge Hub on Food and Nutrition Security and to provide the unique possibility to connect researchers with other existing initiatives and relevant stakeholders in the Food and Nutrition Security research area. The Knowledge Hub (KH) is implemented under the umbrella of the JPI HDHL 1st ERA-Net Cofund.
The overall aim of the Knowledge Hub on Food and Nutrition Security is to foster transnational and multidisciplinary collaboration and networking in order to accelerate, further characterize and to manage the impact of climate change on nutritional make-up of food, and to propose adaptive strategies/measures to ensure food and nutrition security.
To accomplish this vision, various funding agencies from 9 countries will bring together research groups from different disciplines to form an international consortium that will design and implement the Knowledge Hub.
The networking activities should contribute to the current challenges in the area of Food and Nutrition Security research, and ensure that existing research activities in this area are coordinated. Examples of networking activities could include:
Interested researchers should express their interest in participating in the KH applying online using the electronic submission system of the JPI HDHL at the following link
More information and the call documents are available online at the following link
FCT will facilitate the participation of Portuguese researchers currently funded under a national project under the themes of the KH. Any other researcher interested in the Knowledge Hub can participate with own funding. For more information on national participation please contact FCT.
