ESFRI PT Process

The European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) works to support a strategic approach to policy-making on research infrastructures in Europe, and to facilitate initiatives leading to the better use and development of research infrastructures. ESFRI published its first roadmap for the construction and development of the next generation of pan-European research infrastructures in 2006, with updates in 2008, 2010 and 2016.

ESFRI is updating its Roadmap of Research Infrastructures and has launched a call for projects to be considered for inclusion on the updated Roadmap due to be published in summer 2018. Details of the Call can be found here and the deadline for submission of proposals to ESFRI is 31 August, 2017.

Proposals can only be submitted to ESFRI via the respective National Delegates or through EIROFORUM. The PT ESFRI delegates are: Cristiana Leandro, FCT (cristiana.leandro@fct.pt) and José Antão, FCT/GPPQ (jose.antao@fct.pt).

The completed ESFRI Questionnaire and ESFRI PT Project Form should be sent to PTESFRI@fct.pt by 1 June, 2017. This is earlier than the ESFRI deadline to allow the PT ESFRI delegates to qualify proposals, and it takes into account the summer recess.

Important Notes

The level of support* for a project by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and/or Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) is a criterion that ESFRI will use in the assessment of candidate projects. According to ESFRI eligibility rules, the letter of support must be signed by national ministries responsible for the research infrastructure. Consequently, the PT ESFRI delegates will not put forward any project that does not have such support.

Particular attention should be paid to the ESFRI requirement that all proposals are supported by at least three different Member States or Associated Countries (at least one of which should express a formal financial commitment to the project). Consult the ESFRI website for further details.

The PT ESFRI delegates will not assess proposals. ESFRI delegates, acting on behalf of their Member State, are not in a position to influence the selection of projects.

* Support from the FCT/MCTES at this stage is not a guarantee of funding, from any source, either now or in the future.
