2013 call for the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance

Purpose and overview

The aim of this call for proposals is to establish a National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance. Proposals will be evaluated for their inclusion in the national roadmap, and a national database of research infrastructures will be set up.

Underpinning the evaluation and preparation of the roadmap of research infrastructures is a 6-year financing plan, aimed to promote synergies, and based on identifying priority areas of strategic national interest.

Research infrastructures in the following areas will be considered:

  • Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Biological and Medical Sciences
  • Material and Analytical Facilities
  • Energy
  • E-Infrastructures

What's included

Submitted proposals that meet the requirements for a RI will be included in a national database of RIs, to be made available on the FCT website.

In each thematic area, RIs selected for the National Roadmap will be considered for funding, based on their ranking after evaluation.

Eligibility

The following organisations may apply, either individually or in consortia: public and private Portuguese higher education institutions; State Laboratories and international laboratories based in Portugal; private non-profit institutions (dedicated to R&D) and other public or private, non-profit organisations that carry out scientific research.

Each application is led by a Principal Investigator. A researcher may not be Principal Investigator on more than one application.

How and when to apply

The call is open from 30 July 2013 to 17h00 (Lisbon time), 30 September 2013.

All applications should be submitted online, in English, via the PCT online platform. Proposals should include a 6-year Action Plan, based on a SWOT (Strength-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) analysis, and a pluriannual financial plan.

Evaluation

Submitted proposals will be evaluated by independent panels of international leading experts in each thematic area, according to the scientific quality of the proposal and its strategic relevance. Members of local, regional and central government will be called upon to review the strategic relevance of proposals.
