21.07.2015 - Application open until 25 September 2015

The Digital Inclusion and Literacy Prize aims to distinguish and support innovative projects focused on the promotion of digital skills for all, thus contributing to a more inclusive society.

Aware of the challenges posed to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) users in Portugal, where 34% have never used the Internet, FCT wishes to support initiatives that may improve all citizens' qualifications, through the Digital Inclusion and Literacy Prize, and so reduce the digital inequalities and empower citizens to participate autonomously in the digital society.

Open to public and private organisations, to the technical and academic communities and to civil society, at a total value of €500 000, projects that have been ongoing for at least 36 months, either continuously or with breaks, since 2010, may apply. Proposals should show features such as:

  • significant impact on familiarisation or acquisition of basic skills in ICT for audiences with low, very low or zero use of ICT, namely of the Internet;
  • projects with a capacity to be replicated or expanded, either geographically and/or to different target groups;
  • quality and innovation.

The Digital Inclusion and Literacy Prize was set up by FCT in 2014, as part of its remit to coordinate public policies for the Information Society in Portugal. The success of the first edition, with hundreds of submitted proposals, led FCT to continue this important initiative in ICT.
