Mission

MIT Portugal Program (MPP2030) aims at fostering collaborative research between MIT and Portuguese universities, research institutes, laboratories, and companies, targeting innovative, high-impact ideas and research projects with the full potential to address complex challenges of global and societal impact.

1. Climate Science & Climate Change;
2. Earth Systems: Oceans to Near Space;
3. Digital Transformation in Manufacturing,
4. Sustainable Cities.
(all supported by foundational Data Science)

Initiatives

Flagships Projects: large-scale collaborative research between MIT and Portuguese universities, research institutes, laboratories, companies;
Seed Projects: seed project funding for collaborative research between MIT and Portuguese universities, research institutes, laboratories, companies;
Ideas Sprint: Short events/competitions for idea sprinting, ie., several different activities and events such as competitions and hackathons will be launched, where ideas will emerge and will be tested,
PhD grants: under MIT Portugal program FCT awards forty (40) FCT-MPP2030 PhD grants every year to conduct doctoral research in the main areas of the MIT Portugal Program.
