International Cooperation

JTI – Joint Technology Initiatives

The Joint Technological Initiatives (JTI) are public-private partnerships created by the European Commission within Article 187 of the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union. The JTI have a dedicated administrative structure (the Joint Undertaking), and include the direct participation of industrial associations in the definition of topics and priorities for the calls for collaborative projects, in areas that are relevant to the competitiveness and industrial development of Europe. Some JTI also include funding from the Member States, and in those cases they are also directly involved in the decision-making process.

JTI with the participation of FCT

Most currently active JTI are a direct partnership between the European Commission and the relevant industrial platforms. However, in some cases there is also direct participation of Member States, thus reinforcing the public funding to that specific industrial sector.

FCT is responsible for the national participation in two of those JTI: ECSEL, dedicated to electronic components and systems; and EuroHPC, supporting High Performance Computing.

Key Digital Technologies (KDT)

The KDT (Key Digital Technologies) Partnership is a continuation of the Joint Technological Initiative ECSEL (Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership) for the period 2021-2027.

You can find more information about this partnership here.

EuroHPC – European High Performance Computing

EuroHPC was created in 2019, and seeks to support the implementation of several supercomputers in Europe, and to foster the development of High Performance Computing technologies. More information about the national participation in EuroHPC can be found here.

You can consult the funding opportunities in the list of ongoing calls.
