1st Workshop on Human Biomonitoring in Portugal (1st HBM-PT)

“Bridging Chemical Exposure to Human Health”

Human biomonitoring (HBM) uses human samples (blood, urine, hair, etc.) to collect data in order to assess human exposure to chemicals, to better understand the associated effects and health impacts and improve the risk assessment. It can inform authorities on measures to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals and give guidance on medical treatment.

Aim of the workshop:

The 1st HBM WS in Portugal aims to:

  • bring together stakeholders, researchers and regulators to discuss the contribution of HBM to health and environmental policies and human health risk assessment;
  • inform experts and stakeholders about key aspects, structure and activities of the HBM4EU project;
  • share the achievements of the first year of the Portuguese participation in the HBM4EU project.

This event is organized by the Portuguese National Hub for Human Biomonitoring (HBM NH-PT) set for the HBM4EU project, which includes Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT), Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge, I.P. (INSA), Direção Geral de Saúde (DGS) and Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, I.P. (APA), in partnership with Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Lisboa (FMUL) and Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde Lisboa (ESTeSL), Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa.

Target group:

The workshop is dedicated to everyone interested in:

  • Exposure to chemicals and associated health impacts;
  • Role of HBM in optimizing risk assessment;
  • Role of HBM to improve chemicals risk management.

TOPICS:

Oral communications/posters will be selected from abstracts under the following topics:

  • Human Biomonitoring across Europe: contribution to health and environment policies;
  • Human Biomonitoring in Health Risk Assessment;
  • Human exposure and health effects.
