CoBioTech – ERA-NET Cofund on Biotechnology

Innovation for Europe – Life science meets market applications

CoBioTech is an ERA-Net Cofund on Biotechnology Action under Horizon 2020 that will build upon the achievements of ERA-IB2 (ERA-NET for Industrial Biotechnology 2), ERASysAPP (ERA-NET for Applied Systems Biology) and ERASynBio (ERA-NET for Synthetic Biology). The Cobiotech brings together 24 funding agencies, with the following mission:

  • Maximise synergies between current mechanisms of biotechnology research funding in Europe;
  • Foster the exchange of knowledge across borders;
  • Highlight the benefits of a bio-based economy for society;
  • Maintain and strengthen Europe’s position in biotechnology.

CoBioTech wants to realize the “European Biotechnology Hub”, an entirely new concept reaching out to key actors and stakeholders from multiple biotechnology-related areas, in order to align different national/regional strategic instruments with the goals of the KET biotechnology programme under Horizon 2020, and to increase public awareness of biotechnology for industrial uses.

CoBioTech will implement additional funding activities without EU co-funding which will advance RD&I in industrial biotechnology in line with the Strategic Agenda and the outcomes of the "European Biotechnology Hub". CoBioTech thus provides biotechnology stakeholders with tailor-made support regarding information, communication, networking and funding.

FCT is a member of the ERA-NET Cofund on Biotechnology (ERA CoBioTech) however FCT will not participate in the first co-funded call, launched in December, 2016.

FCT did not participate in the joint transnational calls launched by CoBioTech.
