NEWA

FCT is a member of the ERA-NET PLUS NEWA - New European Wind Atlas, with 9 partners from 8 different countries. NEWA is expected to have a direct impact in the development of new technologies related to wind energy, through the publication of a European Wind Atlas that should promote:

The reduction of the cost of electricity generated by wind farms by mitigating risks related to the design and operation of large-scale wind turbines through an enhanced knowledge of wind conditions;
Better quantification of the European wind energy potential, and provision of data and models that can improve spatial planning tools and operations, ensuring an effective and efficient deployment of wind power.

Call for Proposals

NEWA opened a call for proposals on the 3rd of June 2014 with the purpose of supporting the production of a New European Wind Atlas.

The call will fund only ONE (1) transnational proposal, that adequatly promotes

The assessment and mapping of wind resources towards the reduction of uncertainties to less than 3% for flat homogenous terrains, and to less than 10% for any terrain, concerning wind energy production and wind conditions that affect the design of wind turbines.

Until the 04th of August 2014 (17:00, CET)

DG04 - Walonnia (Belgium), FWO - Flandres (Belgium), BMUB (Germany), DEA (Denmark), LAS (Latvia), MINECO (Spain), FCT (Portugal), SEA (Sweden) and TUBITAK (Turkey).

Eligibility and National Regulations

A complete description of the objectives, eligibility rules, submission procedures and the evaluation process are described in the Call Text. The final funding decision will be made by FCT and, in the case of final approval, Portuguese applicants will be asked to complete a national submission form. The participation of Portuguese institutions will be in accordance with National Regulations.
