The ERA-NET Heritage Plus is designed to generate new, research-based knowledge to promote the sustainable use and management of cultural heritage and so to meet societal challenges and contribute to the development on the society. Heritage Plus aims to fund excellent collaborative, transnational, interdisciplinary, innovative R&D projects focussed mainly on tangible cultural heritage research, while not excluding the interlinked aspects of intangible and digital heritage.
Heritage Plus is co-funded by various agencies in 15 participating countries and the European Commission. Heritage Plus is part of the Joint Programming Initiative in Cultural Heritage and Global Change (JPICH, www.jpi-culturalheritage.eu/).
Funded project with Portuguese participation:
352 pre-proposals were submitted and 111
were from Portugal (32 with Portuguese leadership and 79 with Portuguese
participation). 16 proposals were selected for funding.
1 of them has a Portuguese coordination (Faculdade de
Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa; researcher:
Salwa Castelo-Branco). The total amount awarded to the Portuguese projet is
€117 402.
The research topics on which the Heritage Plus Call is focused have been drawn from areas identified in the Strategic Research Agenda for the Joint Programming Initiative in Cultural Heritage and Global Change (http://www.jpi-culturalheritage.eu/2014/02/strategic-research-agenda-sra/).
The call will support projects across three broad topics:
The call for pre-proposals opens on 3 March 2014 and the deadline for submission of the pre-proposals will be 28 April 2014. (18:00 CET)
Only researchers based in countries that have committed to the Heritage Plus Call can apply for funding. These are: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.
The Heritage Plus call will support well-defined, interdisciplinary and collaborative R&D projects that maximize the value of research outcomes. The Heritage Plus call has a two-step submission and evaluation process.
The detailed guidelines for submitting a pre-proposal, including eligibility criteria for each country, is available from 3 March 2014.

The funding available for Portuguese applicants is 300 000 EUROS. Maximum per project is of 200 000 EUROS if the project is coordinated by the Portuguese institution, or 125 000 EUROS if the Portuguese institution participant is only a partner in the project.
National Regulations will be applied for Portuguese participant institutions.
