Transnational Cooperation

ERA-NET SusAn - Sustainable Animal Production

FCT is a partner of the ERA-NET SusAn, a project that will extend and strengthen the transnational cooperation between research funding organisations on Sustainable Animal Production, during a five year period of 2016-2020. The second objective is to build a Strategic and Innovation Research Agenda on Sustainable Animal Production, which will define research priorities on Sustainable Animal Production. ERA-NET SusAn will also organise several joint activities in order to promote research in Sustainable Animal Production, crossing boundaries of countries and regions within and outside the Europe. The SusAn ERA-NET consortium consists of 37 partner organisations from 21 EU Member States and 2 EU Associated Countries.

SusAn JOINT TRANSNATIONAL CALL 2016

The Call Announcement will contain detailed information on call topics, participating countries and funding commitments. Please consult the documents and selected links available in the yellow box on the right.

Call Research Areas

  • Area 1 ("Economy"): Improve the productivity, resilience and competitiveness of European Animal Production;
  • Area 2 ("Environment"): Improve and manage resource use to reduce waste and enhance the environmental sustainability of European animal production;
  • Area 3 ("Society"): Improve on-farm practices to enhance consumer acceptability and address societal challenges associated with animal welfare, product quality and safety, biodiversity and provision of ecosystem services.

Consortia should submit cross-cutting research proposals which address all three areas, and build on the sustainability triangle of economic competitiveness, social acceptability and environmental protection.

Participating countries

Austria, Belgium (Wallonia and Flanders), Check Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Irland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (Basque region), Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey and United Kingdom

Applicants from countries not participating in the call can be part of a consortium, as long as they are able to secure their own funding.

How to apply

  1. Please consult the "Call Announcement" on the yellow box on the right.
  2. Consult the National documents available in the box on the right. Also read the specific National Funding Regulations of all participating countries involved in your consortium (including your own), available in the Call Announcement. Non-eligible partners may lead to the rejection of the whole consortium.
  3. Access the online submission tool Online submission tool
  4. Each Portuguese partner and/or coordinator has to send to the National Contact Point a Statement of Commitment duly signed, dated and stamped by the Head of the Portuguese applicant organisation and by the Principal Investigator, until 10 days after the submission deadline. FCT may latter require the original of the statement of commitment.

FCT financial commitment and funding regulations (Portugal)


National funding commitment for the call: 400.000€

Maximum requested funding for a consortium coordinated by Portugal: 180.000 €

Maximum requested funding for a consortium with Portuguese participation: 130.000 €

Note: If more than one Portuguese institution participates in a given consortium, the budget has to be shared. Portuguese institutions must follow the National Regulation Regulamento de acesso a financiamento de projetos de IC&DT. The dedication (FTI) in transnational projects is not taken into account for the 100% (FTE) dedication to national projects.
