Initial Training Networks (ITN)

7th Research Framework Programme
People Programme

What are Marie Curie Initial Training Networks?

The Marie Curie Initial Training Networks are international partnerships created by research teams in different Member or Associate States, which, through a common project, promote the initial training of researchers in the beginning of their careers. These projects are aimed at improving their research and complementary skills, help them join established research teams, and enhance their career prospects in both public and private sectors.

Who can apply?

A network should comprise at least three participants (e.g. universities, research centres, companies, SMEs) proposing a coherent research training programme. However, in certain cases single or twinning host organisations may also be eligible.

Which research topics are supported?

Proposals from all areas of scientific and technological research of interest to the European Union are welcome.

How does it work?

Networks will be selected competitively following an evaluation process. Proposals are evaluated by external independent experts against a series of predetermined criteria and selected for funding for up to 4 years.

What does the funding cover?

Support will be provided for:

  • Recruitment of researchers (in the first five years of their career) for initial training;
  • Recruitment of experienced researchers of outstanding stature in international training and collaborative research to strengthen transfer of knowledge;
  • Networking activities, organisation of workshops and conferences, involving the participants own research staff and external researchers.

Most recent call for proposals available on the European Commission Research & Innovation Participant Portal.

Deadline for submissions: 22 November 2012, 17:00:00, Brussels local time (16:00:00, Lisbon local time).
