Maratona da Saúde 2014 Awards
for Cancer Research

Purpose and overview

Promoting scientific research in different areas of biomedical research is the main goal of the Maratona da Saúde Awards. Created by Maratona da Saúde (MdS) Association, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) joined the initiative in September 2014, when a Memorandum of Understanding was signed. A call for proposals is now open.

What´s included

The four best proposals will be awarded €25 000 (twenty five thousand Euros) each, for a maximum two-year period. Donations collected during the annual MdS TV show broadcast by RTP, and other funds gathered via other MdS initiatives carried out during the year provide funding for the awards.

Eligibility

Both Portuguese and foreign researchers and physicians who have completed their PhD at least two years before the call launch date, who wish to develop their projects, autonomously, in research institution based in Portugal, may apply. Partnership between Portuguese research centres and hospitals and other national or international health institutions are encouraged.

How and when to apply

The call for applications is open from 15 September 2014 to 17h00 (Lisbon time) on 31 October 2014.

Applications should be sent to premios.maratonadasaude@fct.pt, using a specific form and the Principal Investigator’s curriculum vitae.

Evaluation

Proposals will be evaluated by a panel proposed by FCT, composed of well-established, international scientists in the area of biomedicine. The best proposals shall be ranked, and the jury's decision validated by the Scientific Council of MdS who will convey its recommendation to the Mds Board for the final decision on granting the awards, according to the criteria established in the Notice of the Call.
