FCT Scientific Councils collaborate directly with FCT providing advisory support to its activity. Its action and scope depends on the nature of the respective scientific area and from its technological development. The members of Scientific Councils are scientists with proven scientific merit in their area of expertise.
Every year FCT launches public open calls for the funding of proposals presented by infrastructures, institutions, research teams or individuals. The funding of the meritorious proposals is preceded by a rigorous evaluation exercise conducted by a national and/or international Evaluation Panel.
